As promised, we (editors Nancy Reid & Lisa
Smith) were personally able to deliver all
of Debra’s prizes – just in time for
Thanksgiving – and let us tell you, Debra
was one happy lady, as well as her family -
see pictured, husband Dallas and daughter
Celestine (unfortunately their oldest
daughter was not able to be there for the
prize giving). Not only did we enjoy meeting
them all, and have fun watching Debra unpack
all her prizes, but the trip up to this
corner of California’s Central Valley was
incredible. From our point of view, we
really have to thank Debra for entering and
being our winner, as the magazine has a new
territory to cover – Tulare County, home to
Visalia and The Sequoia Region.

On
Debra’s insistence, we decided to check out
the region, and contacted the Visalia
Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. Their
Tourism Coordinator, Erin Capuchino got a
hold of us, and next thing we knew, we were
on a three day whirlwind tour of the entire
region. We experienced so much - farming and
agriculture; parks, preserves, conservation
and nature attractions; quaint and historic
downtown districts; art galleries and
communities; rich history and heritage;
wonderful lodging opportunities from Bed &
Breakfasts to top notch hotels - like the
Visalia Fairfield Inn where we stayed (and
personally recommend!); fine dining and
unique eateries; fantastic specialty
shopping destinations; and so much more. We
met so many interesting people, all so
friendly and personable, and full of pride
for their communities. We feel as though we
discovered the essence of America in the
heart of California. Watch for future
articles as we start covering this diverse

Stephanie
Dement of Carlsbad, California won

California. Besides being an art enthusiast,
Mimi is also an

art teacher. She won a two nights stay at the

Mimi will be visiting Fallbrook and will enjoy
her prizes this summer. It was a pleasure
meeting Mimi. A big supporter of the arts in
her area, Mimi took us on a tour of Henderson,
Boulder City and Las Vegas.
