The
Raven Players
The Raven Players organized in 2005, regrouping the
original Raven Players to build a resident,
self-sustaining community theater company in Healdsburg,
California, known for consistently high quality
productions and for being a popular destination for live
theater in the North Bay. Shows are produced in
association with Raven Performing Arts Theater and
former highlights have included Miss Saigon, Seussical,
and Steel Magnolias. The 2010-2011 season includes RENT.
CATS
- July 1-3, 9-11, 16-18, 23-25
The
Raven Players innovative North Bay premiere production
of Cats tells the story in song and dance of the annual
gathering of Jellicle cats where one special cat is
selected to ascend to the Heavyside Layer. This musical
theater phenomenon will run June 25-July 25 at the
historic Raven Theater in Healdsburg, the heart of
Sonoma County wine country.
Cats ran on Broadway for 18 years, making it one of
Broadway’s longest running shows. It is Andrew Lloyd
Webber’s finest score, featuring the haunting song,
“Memory”. Winner of the Laurence Olivier Award and the
Tony Award for Best Musical, Cats has been performed
around the world in numerous productions in more than 20
languages and in 1998 was made into a video.
Raven Players had donated over 400 tickets to eight
Sonoma County non-profits to encourage new theatergoers
to experience the play, which is based upon Poet T.S.
Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats (1939). An
unusual musical in terms of its construction, Cats
genres range from classical to pop, music hall, jazz,
rock and electro-acoustic music as well as hymnal songs
such as "The Addressing of Cats" and the set consists
exclusively of an oversized junk yard.
“A very complicated score set in a very common place…
for cats that is,” said Cat’s Director John DeGaetano
who has worked for years in theatre, film, and public
television including an upcoming National Geographic
docu-drama. His production credits include Miss Saigon,
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Monster
Bash. He is President of the Raven Players Board of
Directors
