Tack Room Charm
By Mike Moutoux

Tack rooms have a certain charm, and I like to visit that part of the barn
There’s something tack rooms have I find appealing
It’s the smells and sights combined, all the neat things that you find
That give these rooms an old familiar feeling

Reins and bridles on the walls, a set of chinks and overalls
Dark leather and old cotton showing wear
Saddle blankets on the racks, and a pile of old feed sacks
Add color to rough wood walls and leatherwear

In the corner, an old box sits with a collection of steel bits
Curbs and snaffles used on horses now long gone
Horsehair cinches and latigo not used since long ago
Are kept to help their memories live on

Saddles decorate the rooms with basket weaves and floral blooms
Stamped into their leather parts with skill and pride
They’re artwork made for use, and designed to take abuse
Yet add a touch of grace to every ride

Some rooms are large, some are small, to tell the truth---I like ‘em all
To me, each is much more fun than any ol’ museum
No waiting, no lines, and no tellin’ what you’ll find
When I get the chance I always ask to see ‘em

The folks there are very kind, and you’ll be pleased to find
That each display is something you’re allowed to touch
And the artwork is, of course, all about the workin’ horse
Which may explain just why I like ‘em all so much

No gift shop waits you at the end; you are free to leave my friend
It’s all a part of every tacks rooms’ charm
Don’t ask for a brochure, they won’t have one there I’m sure
But please, no flash photography in the barn!
