Silk - The Most Intriguing of all Fabrics - Why? It is the only fabric that I consider to be a living fabric. Silk is a natural protein fiber. The best known type of silk is obtained from the cocoons made by the larvae of the mulberry silkworm. Silk fibers have a triangular cross section with rounded corners. This reflects light at many different angles, giving silk a natural shine. It can be dyed into many beautiful colors. Silk is naturally absorbent which makes it comfortable to wear in warm weather.
