Cotton Wood is located in north Central Arizona in Yavapai County. It has retained it's atmosphere of the Old West and is near the Coconino and Oak Creek Canyon National Forests, in the Verde Valley area. Attractions include Red Rocks of Sedona, the Ponderosa Pine forests, Dead Horse Ranch State Park, hiking and nature trails, birding and wildlife viewing, fishing, and camping.

About Cottonwood, Arizona
Located in Yavapai County, Cottonwood sits at an elevation of 3,300 feet, near the Coconino and Oak Creek Canyon National Forests, in the Verde Valley area. The area boasts a mild climate with a median temperature of 50 degrees, a yearly average of 18 inches of rain, and 4 inches of snow. This weather allows visitors and residents alike, to fully enjoy the diverse terrain of these National Forests, ranging from the famous Red Rocks of Sedona, to the Ponderosa Pine forests with mountains and canyons. These areas have some of the most exciting hiking and camping sites, and wading and fishing opportunities in the lakes and streams. Oak Creek Canyon Forest is considered to be the smaller version of the Grand Canyon, also known for its colorful and unique rock formations and spectacular scenery.


Cottonwood is also home to Dead Horse Ranch State Park, a 423-acre an oasis for birds and wildlife set in the heart of the Verde River’s lush riparian corridor. Here, visitors can explore hiking and nature trails, birding and wildlife viewing, fishing, camping and more.

Historic Old Town Cottonwood, once a bootlegging center, and a popular movie location site, maintains the atmosphere of its Old West past with well-preserved architecture, and being listed as a National Register of Historic Places.

There is plenty to see and do in Cottonwood and the surrounding area, including visiting Pre-Columbian Sinaguan sites at the Tuzigoot National Monument, a train ride along the Verde River Canyon, a cowboy dinner show, hiking, golf, fishing, and even trying your luck at the casino. All in all, Cottonwood is a very relaxing and beautiful place to spend some quality time with friends or family.

Cottonwood is located about 100 miles north of Phoenix, about 70 miles south of Flagstaff, around 54 miles from Prescott, less than 20 miles from Sedona, and only 10 miles from Jerome.
From Phoenix, AZ: Head north on 1-17 towards Flagstaff. After about 83 miles, take Arizona Hwy. 260 at exit 287, heading towards Arizona Hwy. 89A. Take Hwy. to Cottonwood.
