Flag: Alaska became a state on January 3,
1959 and is our 49th state. The flag is blue to
represent the sky, sea, mountain lakes and
Alaska's wildflowers. The stars represent the
big dipper and one is the North State.
Origin of state's name: Corruption of Aleut word meaning “great land” or
“that which the sea breaks against”
Highest Point: Mt. McKinley; 20,320 feet,
Lowest Point: Pacific Ocean; Sea level
